Corbin Isabel Hunter Crawford was the third child born to Isabel Maeve (Hunter) Crawford and Reginald Thomas Crawford. She followed, by no few years, her twin brothers William Thomas and Lawrence Wallace. Growing up with a rather large extended family in Craufurdland, Corbin found herself enamored with the rich and complex family history that shrouded the castle and estates, and the little town of the same name nearby. Unlike her older brothers, who were bright and cheerful from birth, Corbin found herself the quiet, musing sort who fed on information and, even as a young child, would sneak into her parents’ forbidden library rooms to peruse shelves full of books that made little sense to her little mind. No matter to Corbin! Everything was filed away for later perusal at her leisure, written away in her secret diaries and kept close to her heart. Caught as the darker flower within the garden of various relatives, Corbin was close to no one, keeping mainly to herself and enjoying her time alone. Few people could draw her attention like the books, forbidden behind glass, or the conversations that she would hear when whisper-quiet feet took her through long-forgotten pathways between ancient stone walls.
Envying her older brothers their easy way with other people, she drew into herself, and spent much of her time reading in the family burial grounds and exploring the forests that bordered the family’s lands. Feeling sorry for their sister, her siblings would often bring home knowledge from their Hogwarts education for her, letting the child peruse their school text, and glean what information she could from the boys. When their descriptions didn’t prove enough for the girl, she would often sneak into their homework and find what she could. Caught in a malicious little bout of annoyance that they could learn so much while she, intelligent little mouse that she was, remained stuck at home, the girl would often attempt little ploys to get the boys – and other relatives living within the estate – into trouble, while somehow retaining her own innocence.
Growing up in a mainly magical family – mum had been a Ravenclaw, Dad a Gryffindor like both brothers, not to mention countless others in the Crawford line – Corbin had little interest in the muggle world beyond her little town, and what little interest she had there was mostly trying to see what mischief she could cause.
As she grew, Corbin sobered somewhat. Her desire to learn didn’t waver, a growing passion, but her reasons changed. She was not like her brothers, her parents, nor the ancestors they revered. She was not brave, and did not stand up for others at great personal risk. Oh, what a sad excuse for a descendent of the great William Wallace was she! Corbin, chagrined at the difference between herself and her siblings, and indeed most of her ancestors and relatives, decided that if she did not have the foolhardy strength of character that people called Courage, she would at least have strength of will. Knowledge is power, and so Corbin decided that she would have that power, that special brand of strength, no matter the cost. Of course, Corbin was determined that she would not bear any such cost. She’d find someone else to pay for her tasks. She always did.
While the family had never boasted of pureblood status, there was little doubt that Corbin would attend Hogwarts, and no surprise when she left for her first year.
